Technical Specifications The fan assembly operates in two distinct modes. Variable Speed Mode adjusts fan velocity based on internal and ambient mainframe temperatures, enabling quieter operation while delivering adequate cooling for installed modules. Full Speed Mode runs all air movers - including the cardcage impeller and power supply fan(s) - at maximum capacity, recommended when acoustic noise is not a limiting factor. Diagnostic and monitoring capabilities vary by mainframe model. The E8401A and E8403A provide basic monitoring indicating normal operating conditions via a front panel diagnostics connector. The E8404A model features enhanced monitoring accessible through a full-color display or via VXIbus and RS-232 connection, reporting temperatures, power supply voltages and currents, fan operation status, and system diagnostics.
