The Keysight E3600 series is the most common bench-level module family we see. It is well-built, GPIB-programmable, and available in single-, dual-, and triple-output variants. For ATE racks requiring higher power, the N5700 series (100–500 W) fills the gap. For precision semiconductor device characterization, the Keithley 2400 series source-measure unit (SMU) is more common than a traditional supply because it simultaneously sources and measures voltage and current.

Calibration and Verification Process
Power supply modules are calibrated by measuring DC output voltage accuracy at full scale, half scale, and minimum, and current accuracy at full and half scale across all output channels. We use a Keysight 3458A 8.5-digit DMM as the reference measurement instrument. Modules that pass calibration are listed as calibrated with the date; those that are within spec but not formally calibrated are noted as tested-only. NIST-traceable calibration certificates are available on request at additional cost.

A power supply module is designed for ATE rack integration, VXI or PXI chassis installation, or modular system configurations — it typically lacks a front-panel display and is controlled exclusively over GPIB, LAN, or USB. A bench power supply is a standalone unit with a display, knobs, and manual controls. Both deliver regulated DC output, but modules are sized and interfaced for automated test racks, not manual bench use. If you are building a rack-based ATE system, a module is the right choice.
What output voltage and current ranges are typical for power supply modules? +
The Keysight E3600 family covers single-output modules from 8 V/7 A to 60 V/1.5 A in fixed-range configurations. The N5700 and N5750 series (100 W to 500 W per module) cover 20 V/5 A through 300 V/1.7 A. Kepco BOP series modules are bipolar, covering ±72 V/±15 A for amplifier supplies. For higher-power ATE supplies in the 1–5 kW range, Sorensen SGA and Xantrex XDC modules are common.
What are the most common issues found on used Keysight E3600 series modules? +
The E3600 series (E3615A, E3616A, E3617A, E3620A, E3630A) ages well mechanically. The most common bench finding is calibration drift — voltage and current output accuracy drifts from factory spec after several years without recalibration. We measure output voltage accuracy at full and half scale for every module before listing. The second issue is fan bearing noise on older units. We note both conditions in the listing.
Can power supply modules be used for battery simulation in EV and automotive testing? +
High-precision battery simulation requires a supply with fast transient response, bidirectional current (source and sink), and a programmable load profile — the Keysight N6900 series advanced power system or the Chroma 62000P series are built for this. Standard power supply modules can provide a static bus voltage but cannot replicate the dynamic impedance profile of a battery cell. For EV pack simulation the bidirectional requirement eliminates most single-quadrant supplies.
What GPIB or LAN interface do power supply modules typically use? +
Keysight E3600 and N5700 series modules use GPIB (IEEE-488.2) as the standard interface. Later N5700 series units add LAN (LXI) and USB. Kepco BOP series modules use GPIB or an optional analog remote programming interface. Sorensen SGA series uses GPIB or RS-232. When integrating into a modern test system without a GPIB card, confirm that LAN or USB interface is available on the specific model.
Are multi-output power supply modules available for mixed-voltage ATE applications? +
Yes. The Keysight E3630A is a triple-output module: 0–6 V/2.5 A, 0–25 V/1 A, and 0–(negative)25 V/1 A, all independently regulated. The E3620A is a dual-output 0–25 V/1 A module.
