Most oscilloscopes that land on our bench are not dead. They failed a calibration, or a channel went noisy, or the power supply gave out on a unit that is otherwise fine. Those are repairs, and they cost a fraction of replacing a scope.

We work on the ones the manufacturer stopped supporting. Tektronix 2465 and 7000 series. TDS500 and TDS700 units with dead acquisition boards. Agilent 54600 and Infiniium scopes that Keysight will not quote anymore. If someone told you your scope is obsolete and unrepairable, send us the model number before you scrap it.

Everything happens in our own lab. The technician who evaluates your scope repairs it and signs the certificate.

Tektronix

The most serviced scope brand on our bench. Full support for TDS, DPO, MSO, and MDO digital families plus the 2465 series and other analog classics that Tektronix stopped supporting decades ago.

The 2465 is the model we are asked about most. Usual failures: hybrid attenuators, readout board, and power supply electrolytics. A recap plus attenuator work brings most back. Tektronix has not supported these in decades.

Keysight, Agilent, and HP

InfiniiVision, X-series, Infiniium, and legacy HP and Agilent scopes. The 54600 power supply fails predictably. So do the backlight inverters on older Infiniium units. Both are straightforward repairs on scopes people assume are finished.

What our oscilloscope calibration covers

A certificate with nothing but a pass stamp tells you nothing. Here is what we actually measure and record, calibrated against a Fluke 9500B oscilloscope calibrator with active heads and precision DC references, all traceable to NIST.

  • DC vertical gain accuracy at each volts-per-division setting on every channel. This is where most out-of-tolerance scopes fail — gradual drift rather than a hard fault.
  • DC offset accuracy across the full vertical position range.
  • Bandwidth verification at the −3 dB point on each channel, using a leveled sine source. Bandwidth degrades quietly as input components age; we confirm the scope still reaches its rated specification.
  • Rise time measured and compared against the specification derived from rated bandwidth.
  • Timebase accuracy across the sweep range, and delta-time measurement accuracy.
  • Trigger sensitivity and trigger level accuracy on internal and external trigger paths.
  • Input impedance verified at both 1 MΩ and 50 Ω settings where the scope supports both. A drifted 50 Ω termination causes reflection artifacts that are difficult to chase down in circuit.
  • Channel-to-channel skew, which matters for timing and serial bus measurements across multiple channels.
  • Probe compensation output amplitude and frequency.
  • Noise floor at the most sensitive vertical settings.
The certificate lists the measured value at each point, the tolerance, pass or fail, and before-and-after data on any unit that needed adjustment or repair. Printed or PDF, your choice.

Probe calibration and verification

A scope calibration is incomplete if the probes are out of spec, and probes take more physical abuse than the instrument does. We test and calibrate passive probes, and we handle active, differential, and current probes on request.

Frequently asked questions

How much does oscilloscope calibration cost?

$450 standard calibration, $650 with repair or extended verification. Component-level repairs are quoted after the free evaluation. You see the number before any work starts.

My scope failed calibration somewhere else. Can you fix it?

Usually. Failed calibration on a scope is most often vertical gain drift, a bad attenuator relay, or a channel with input damage. All three are repairable. Send it in with the failed cal report if you have it, because knowing which parameter failed saves us diagnostic time.

How long is turnaround?

One to two business days to diagnose after arrival. A few business days for most repairs after approval. Rush available on request — tell us the deadline when you contact us.

Do you work on scopes the manufacturer no longer supports?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Tektronix 2465 and 7000 series, TDS500 and TDS700 units, HP and Agilent 54600 and early Infiniium scopes. We keep donor units and parts for platforms the OEM dropped.

What bandwidth can you calibrate?

We calibrate and repair scopes across the common bandwidth range up to several GHz. For very high bandwidth sampling instruments, send us the model and we will confirm before you ship.

Is the calibration NIST-traceable?

Yes. The certificate documents the reference standards used and the traceability chain along with every measured value at each test point — as-found and as-left.

Do you calibrate probes too?

Yes. Send them with the scope. Passive probes are included in most calibrations, and active, differential, and current probes are handled on request. Bring the probes with the scope and we verify the pair together.

My scope has a dead channel. Is that worth repairing?

Almost always. A dead channel is usually input protection damage, an attenuator relay, or a front-end component, and none of those are expensive relative to a new scope. Get the free evaluation before you write it off.

Can you do on-site calibration?

On request, depending on the instrument and location. Contact us with the model and location and we will advise.

Do you buy oscilloscopes?

Yes. If a repair does not make economic sense we will say so, and we will make an offer if you would rather sell it.
