This unit

The Agilent N5541A N2X Chassis is a four-slot, rack-mountable or stackable platform engineered for multiservice network testing. This chassis forms the foundation of the N2X Multiservices Test Solution, enabling service providers, network equipment manufacturers, and component suppliers to validate end-to-end service attributes and isolate faults across individual devices and subsystems. The system ships with two Agilent 1735A LAN Protocol Fiber Modules, each supporting multi-application testing for 1, 2, and 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel with integrated protocol analysis, traffic generation, and performance measurement capabilities.

Technical Specifications

  • Chassis Model: Agilent N5541A

  • Slot Configuration: 4-slot architecture

  • Form Factor: 19" rack-mountable or bench-top stackable

  • Included Modules: Two (2) Agilent 1735A LAN Protocol Fiber Modules

  • Module Capability: 1, 2, and 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel protocol analysis, traffic generation, and performance testing

  • Scalability: Up to 60 chassis daisy-chainable for expanded test port density

  • Time Synchronization Accuracy: 10 ns across chained systems

Key Features

  • Backward compatible with RouterTester 900, OmniBER XM, and SAN Tester hardware and software platforms

  • Hundreds of test ports achievable through multi-chassis configurations

  • Non-blocking hot-swap architecture preserves test continuity for other users

  • Modular design supports SONET/SDH (OC-3 to OC-192), POS (OC-3c to OC-768c), ATM (OC-3c, OC-12c), Ethernet (10 Mb/s to 10 Gb/s), Frame Relay (OC-3c to OC-48c), and Fibre Channel (1 Gb/s to 4 Gb/s) via appropriate module population

Typical Applications

  • End-to-end network service validation across converging infrastructures

  • Fault isolation and troubleshooting at the device and subsystem level

  • Fibre Channel protocol testing and performance characterization

  • Large-scale multiservice network simulation and stress testing

Compatibility & Integration The N5541A requires a system controller (PC), test modules, and N2X system software. The chassis integrates with existing Agilent test platforms and supports flexible configurations through modular card insertion.

Agilent N5541A — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent N5541A. Calibration covers analog input channel accuracy and offset at all gain settings, analog output accuracy, digital I/O logic threshold verification, sample rate and timing accuracy, and trigger and synchronization bus functional verification. NI CompactRIO and PXI chassis also undergo backplane trigger line integrity check.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Standard Cal
$450
Pass/fail cert + NIST sticker
Cal with Data
$650
Full NIST cert with measured values

Common Agilent N5541A faults: power supply failure (cRIO-9073/9074), C-series slot connector wear, PXI chassis fan failure, GPIB interface failure on VXI controllers, BIOS/EEPROM corruption. NI CompactRIO most common faults are power supply failure on older cRIO-9073/9074 chassis and C-series module slot connector wear from repeated hot-swap cycles. PXI chassis fan failure is the most common wear item — chassis fans are field-replaceable. VXI embedded controllers most commonly develop EEPROM corruption and GPIB interface failure.
