This unit

The Advantech ARK-3500 is a fanless embedded box computer built for industrial automation, transportation, and machine vision applications. It runs without a spinning fan, which eliminates the primary failure mode in dusty or vibration-prone environments. The chassis is sealed aluminum with passive heat dissipation across the case exterior. Key Specs Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Celeron mobile (Socket P) Chipset: Intel GM45 / ICH9M Memory: Up to 4 GB DDR2 SO-DIMM (2 slots) Storage: 2.5-inch SATA (up to 2 drives), CompactFlash Display: VGA, 18/24-bit LVDS (dual independent display) Serial: 4x RS-232/422/485 (software selectable) USB: 6x USB 2.0 Ethernet: 2x Gigabit Ethernet (Intel 82567LM + 82574L) Power Input: 9–34 VDC (wide-range) Operating Temp: -20 to 60°C fanless Expansion: 1x MiniCard (full-size), 1x CompactFlash The ARK-3500 is sized for panel mounting, DIN rail, or desktop deployment. The wide-range DC input (9–34 VDC) accepts vehicle power, 12 VDC and 24 VDC industrial bus power directly without an intermediate converter. This makes it common in transportation and in-vehicle applications where the supply rail fluctuates. The serial ports are individually configurable for RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 through software, not hardware jumpers. This gives flexibility when interfacing legacy PLCs, sensors, and industrial controllers without rewiring the port assignment. The LVDS output supports up to 1400x1050 resolution and can drive an industrial flat panel directly. Combined with VGA for a second display, the ARK-3500 supports dual-monitor setups common in HMI and SCADA workstations. This unit was verified for power-on and basic I/O functionality at our Downingtown, PA facility before listing. What operating systems does the ARK-3500 support? Windows XP Embedded, Windows 7, and Windows Embedded Standard are officially supported. Linux runs on the hardware with standard x86 distributions; peripheral driver support varies by version. Contact us if you need OS-specific compatibility details. Does it ship with a hard drive or SSD? This listing is for the bare unit without storage media. You will need to supply a 2.5-inch SATA drive or CompactFlash card. Can I expand storage or I/O? Yes. The full-size MiniCard slot accepts WiFi, cellular, or custom I/O cards. Additional storage can be added via the second SATA port if the chassis revision supports dual drives.

Advantech ARK-3500 — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Advantech ARK-3500. Calibration covers analog input channel accuracy and offset at all gain settings, analog output accuracy, digital I/O logic threshold verification, sample rate and timing accuracy, and trigger and synchronization bus functional verification. NI CompactRIO and PXI chassis also undergo backplane trigger line integrity check.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Common Advantech ARK-3500 faults: power supply failure (cRIO-9073/9074), C-series slot connector wear, PXI chassis fan failure, GPIB interface failure on VXI controllers, BIOS/EEPROM corruption. NI CompactRIO most common faults are power supply failure on older cRIO-9073/9074 chassis and C-series module slot connector wear from repeated hot-swap cycles. PXI chassis fan failure is the most common wear item — chassis fans are field-replaceable. VXI embedded controllers most commonly develop EEPROM corruption and GPIB interface failure.
