The EXFO FOT-920 MaxTester Automated Loss Test Set is a portable fiber optic test instrument designed for field installation and maintenance. It integrates automated bidirectional loss testing, optical return loss (ORL) measurement, light source functionality, and power metering into a single platform. The FasTesT™ system executes dual-wavelength, bidirectional loss measurements in under 30 seconds, identifying signal loss causes - breaks, bends, faulty connectors, splices - over distances to 5 km.


Power measurement capability extends to +35 dBm with Ultra-High-Power™ detector models supporting Ge, GeX, or InGaAs detector types. Configurable Pass/Fail thresholds with visual alarms streamline on-site pass/fail determination. Internal storage accommodates up to 512 fiber records with RS-232 data transfer to PC or portable printer.


Optional full-duplex digital talk set enables remote voice communication; preset or preprogrammed messages transmit via the fiber under test as backup. The integrated 650 nm visual fault locator (VFL) identifies faults through yellow-jacketed fibers with visible red glow.

Common Exfo FOT-920 faults: optical port connector damage or contamination, battery failure, display damage from field use, module failure on FTB or MTS platforms, calibration drift. Most field OTDRs fail due to physical damage. On modular platforms (EXFO FTB, Viavi MTS), individual module failures are serviced without replacing the entire mainframe.
