This unit
The Fujikura FSM-20RS is an arc fusion splicer designed for precise splicing of single-mode and multimode optical fibers in field environments. Equipped with Profile Alignment System (PAS) technology, it automatically aligns fiber cores or cladding and performs fusion splicing with integrated loss estimation. The splicer's microprocessor-driven architecture delivers consistent results across SM, MM, DSF, and graded-index fiber types, achieving splice losses as low as 0.02 dB on GI fibers and 0.03 dB on SMF.
Technical Specifications
Fiber Types: Single-mode (SMF), multimode (MM), dispersion-shifted (DSF), graded-index (GI)
Operating Wavelengths: 1310 nm (SMF), 1550 nm (DSF)
Alignment Method: Profile Alignment System (PAS) - core alignment for SM, cladding alignment for MM
Average Splice Loss: 0.03 dB (SMF), 0.05 dB (DSF), 0.02 dB (GI)
Splice Data Memory: Stores up to 100 splice records
Display: 3" or 4" LCD monitor with direct sunlight viewability; automatic display orientation adjustment on select models
Power Input: AC 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz (max. 3 A); DC 12 V (max. 10 A) or 10–12 V
Environmental Compensation: Atmosphere, humidity, and temperature compensation functions
Key Features
Fully automated fiber alignment, fusion, and loss estimation via internal microprocessor
High-intensity halogen inspection lamp for enhanced visibility during operation
Built-in tube heater for splice protective sleeve installation
Compact, ruggedized construction suitable for field deployment
Ribbon fiber splicing capability - select models support up to 12-fiber ribbon splices
Fast heating time for improved workflow efficiency
Typical Applications
Telecom and data center fiber network installation and maintenance
Field splicing of long-haul and metro optical cable systems
Ribbon fiber backbone deployment
Compatibility & Integration The FSM-20RS accommodates standard single-mode, multimode, and specialty fiber types. Specific variants such as the FSM-20RSII12 extend capability to multi-fiber ribbon splicing, enabling higher-density network deployments. Dual AC/DC power inputs provide flexibility across field locations with variable power availability.

Fujikura FSM-20RS — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Fujikura FSM-20RS. Calibration covers arc calibration (arc power and duration), V-groove alignment verification, cleave angle detection accuracy, splice loss estimation accuracy, and heating oven temperature calibration. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Fujikura FSM-20RS faults: electrode wear, V-groove contamination or chipping, motor alignment drift, high arc voltage errors. Common repairs include electrode replacement (typically every 2,000-3,000 arcs), V-groove cleaning or replacement, motor and actuator alignment, and camera/CCD replacement. Fujikura FSM and Sumitomo Type series parts are stocked.
