This unit

The Exfo FVA-3100-BWEI is a variable optical attenuator engineered for precise control of optical power levels across the extended C- and L-band spectrum. This singlemode fiber instrument delivers wavelength-dependent attenuation up to 75 dB across 1200–1400 nm, with carefully managed roll-off at longer wavelengths. It serves critical roles in EDFA characterization, component and system loss simulation, instrument calibration, power meter linearity verification, and spectral tuning applications. The FVA-3100-BWEI combines low insertion loss (≤1.6 dB at 1550 nm typical), exceptional linearity (±0.1 dB), and fine resolution (0.005 dB) to meet demanding laboratory and field measurement requirements. Three attenuation modes - absolute, relative, and X+B - enable flexible measurement workflows. Remote control via GPIB or RS-232 with full LabVIEW and SCPI support integrates into automated test systems.

Exfo FVA-3100-BWEI — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Exfo FVA-3100-BWEI. Calibration covers attenuation accuracy at 5 or more set values across the full range (0 to rated maximum dB), attenuation linearity, wavelength-dependent attenuation at 1310 nm, 1490 nm, and 1550 nm, insertion loss at minimum attenuation (0 dB position), and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) where applicable. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Standard Cal
$450
Pass/fail cert + NIST sticker
Cal with Data
$650
Full NIST cert with measured values

Common Exfo FVA-3100-BWEI faults: motor and gear mechanism wear (attenuation steps or loss of smooth control), optical port contamination, EEPROM calibration data corruption. Most common faults are motor or gear mechanism wear on variable attenuators causing attenuation steps or loss of smooth control, optical port contamination reducing dynamic range, and EEPROM calibration data corruption on digitally controlled models.
