This unit

The Keysight U1733C is a handheld LCR meter that delivers benchtop-level measurement performance in a portable platform. It measures inductance (L), capacitance (C), resistance (R), and derived parameters including dissipation factor (D), quality factor (Q), equivalent series resistance (ESR), and impedance (Z). The instrument enables on-site component testing and troubleshooting with 20,000-count resolution and 0.2% basic accuracy across five selectable test frequencies: 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz, and 100 kHz.

Technical Specifications

Measurement Ranges and Accuracy:

  • Resistance (R): 2 Ω to 200 MΩ; 0.2% + 3 counts

  • Capacitance (C): 20 pF to 20 mF; 0.2% + 3 counts

  • Inductance (L): 20 µH to 2000 H; 0.2% + 3 counts

  • Resolution: 20,000 counts

  • Test Frequencies: 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz

  • Additional Parameters: DC Resistance (DCR), Phase Angle of Impedance (θ) Power: Single 9 V battery (16 hours continuous operation); AC-powered operation available with 12 V AC to DC adapter (sold separately). Physical Dimensions: 184 mm H × 87 mm W × 41 mm D Environmental: Operating temperature -10 °C to 55 °C; storage -20 °C to 70 °C. Operating humidity to 80% RH (non-condensing); altitude to 2000 meters.

Key Features

  • Automated Identification (Ai) detects component type (L, C, or R) and measurement mode (parallel or series) automatically, eliminating manual configuration

  • Single-button operation reduces setup time and user error

  • Secondary measurements (D, Q, ESR, DCR, θ) eliminate the need for auxiliary instruments like multimeters

  • 20,000-count resolution ensures measurement precision for component characterization

Typical Applications Designed for field testing, component validation, and circuit troubleshooting where portability and measurement accuracy are required. Suitable for engineers, system integrators, and laboratory environments.

Compatibility & Integration IR-to-USB connectivity enables data logging via Keysight GUI Data Logger Software on Windows platforms (Windows 2000/XP Service Pack 3/Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit).

Common Keysight U1733C faults: GPIB interface board failure, display failure, guard terminal switch contact wear, oscillator calibration drift on older analog bridges. HP 4284A and 4285A most common faults are HPIB interface board failure and display contrast loss. The internal oscillator and vector measurement circuits are highly stable and rarely fail. Wayne Kerr and GenRad bridge instruments may develop switch contact wear on decade resistance/capacitance dials.
