The HP 37717C Communications Performance Analyzer is a field-portable, multi-rate test set engineered for installation, maintenance, and commissioning of PDH/SDH/SONET and ATM transport networks. It delivers bit error rate and jitter testing across rates to 622 Mb/s, with modular architecture supporting flexible configuration and upgrade paths. A large color display, integral floppy disk drive, and optional 80-column graphics printer provide on-site data logging and results export.
Remote control via LAN, GPIB, RS-232-C, and parallel interfaces enables integration into automated test environments.
Technical Specifications
PDH/DSn coverage spans 0.7, 2, 8, 34, and 140 Mb/s with structured (DS1, DS3, E1, E3) and unstructured modes. Mux/demux capability and binary interfaces with external clock input are supported. SDH/SONET interfaces include STM-0 (52 Mb/s), STM-1 (155 Mb/s), and STM-4 (622 Mb/s) via electrical and optical paths. Optical interfaces operate at 1310 nm and 1550 nm wavelengths with optical power measurement. Overhead access, TU-12/TU-2/VC-3/VC-4 mappings, and pointer sequence generation are available.
