Corning ClearCurve OM2 Multimode Bare Optical Fiber
ClearCurve OM2 is Corning's 50/125 µm graded-index multimode fiber meeting IEC 60793-2-10 A1-OM2, with the ClearCurve bend-insensitive design that reduces bend-induced loss in tight enclosures and raceways.

OM2 fiber supports 10 Gb/s Ethernet to 150 m at 850 nm and 1 Gb/s to 750 m. It is the entry point in the 50/125 µm family, appropriate for campus and enterprise networks where 10G is the maximum application and distances are well within the 150 m limit.
The ClearCurve design adds macrobend robustness common to all ClearCurve multimode variants, reducing sensitivity to fiber handling in patch panels and cabinets. For new builds where 40G or 100G may be deployed in the future, OM3 or OM4 is the better investment since OM2 does not support those rates over useful distances.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can OM2 fiber support 40G or 100G?
No. OM2 does not support 40GBASE-SR4 or 100GBASE-SR4 at any practical distance. Those standards require OM3 as a minimum (100 m for 40G, 70-100 m for 100G), and OM4 for the distances specified in the standard. If there is any possibility of 40G or 100G deployment in the lifecycle of the installation, install OM3 or OM4 from the start. The cost difference between OM2 and OM3 fiber is small compared to the cost of re-cabling.
