Corning ClearCurve OM4 Multimode Bare Optical Fiber
ClearCurve OM4 is Corning's high-performance 50/125 µm multimode fiber for data centers and enterprise networks requiring 10G at distances beyond 300 m or 100G at 150 m. It meets IEC A1-OM4 with a minimum 4700 MHz·km effective modal bandwidth at 850 nm.

OM4 defines EMB at 4700 MHz·km, more than double the OM3 minimum. This translates to 10G to 550 m (the OM4+ variant extends this to 600 m), 40G to 150 m, and 100G to 150 m — a 50 percent distance improvement over OM3 at 100G. For large enterprise and campus networks where the horizontal distance between switches and servers approaches 300 m, OM4 is the threshold that determines whether 100G will work without a mid-span amplifier or singlemode conversion.
ClearCurve OM4 includes the bend-insensitive outer design common to all ClearCurve multimode fibers. The OM4+ variant is Corning's enhanced product within the OM4 class, pushing 10G reach to 600 m while remaining within the standard OM4 EMB specification.

What is the OM4+ variant and how does it differ from standard OM4?
OM4+ is Corning's enhanced product within the OM4 class. It meets all OM4 standard requirements while delivering extended 10GBASE-SR reach of 600 m versus the standard 550 m. The EMB specification is the same. The improvement comes from tighter manufacturing control on core geometry and refractive index profile.
Can OM4 fiber support 400G?
Not with current standard parallel optic transceivers at useful distances. 400GBASE-SR8 uses 8 lanes at 50G per lane over OM4 to about 50 m. For 400G at distances over 100 m, OM5 with SWDM4 (4 wavelengths, 100G per wavelength) is the current answer.
