VSDN is designed for links under 100 m — rack-to-rack, server-to-switch, and within-equipment interconnects where VCSELs at 850 nm are the standard optical source. The fiber geometry and modal conditioning are optimized to minimize mode mixing noise at these very short distances, where modal noise from imperfect connectors is often the dominant impairment rather than bandwidth or attenuation.
