SMF-28 Contour is Corning's reduced-diameter bend-insensitive fiber meeting ITU-T G.657.A2, available in Contour Pro and Contour Fit variants. It is built for compact assemblies and installations where conventional 242 µm coating fiber does not fit the mechanical constraints.

G.657.A2 specifies tighter bend performance than G.657.A1: 10-turn, 7.5 mm radius at 1550 nm within defined attenuation limits. SMF-28 Contour meets those limits while maintaining compatibility with the standard G.652.D installed base for splicing purposes. The Contour Pro variant targets patchcord and pigtail assemblies; Contour Fit is optimized for in-situ routing where the fiber takes tight routing paths through hardware.
The reduced outer diameter relative to standard 242 µm fiber makes Contour the right choice when connector ferrule access, bend radius in tight connectorized modules, or cable cross-section in compact MDUs is the limiting factor.
