HI1060 has a small mode field diameter at 1060 nm, making it compatible with Yb-doped gain fibers in single-frequency and mode-locked fiber laser cavities. It is also used as a delivery fiber in ultrafast optic setups where group velocity dispersion at 1060 nm must be controlled. The HI980 targets 980 nm pump fibers. Both are manufactured by Corning's specialty division and have longer lead times than standard telecom products.

Reduced-cladding single-mode fibers (80 µm cladding instead of the standard 125 µm) are available for applications requiring smaller fiber diameter in tight packages.
