The Tektronix CSA8000 and CSA8000B are modular sampling oscilloscope mainframes built for eye-diagram, jitter, and mask-testing work on datacom and telecom signals - accepting a family of optical and electrical sampling plug-in modules to cover DC through tens of GHz depending on configuration. They were the standard bench platform for transceiver and transmission-system compliance testing through the 2000s and into the 2010s. Tektronix has moved its current sampling-scope line to the DSA8300 and TDS8000-series mainframes, and CSA8000/CSA8000B support is well past its window. The most common failure we see is on the sampling plug-in modules themselves, not the mainframe - sampling diode degradation shows up as a noisier, less sensitive eye pattern well before the module stops working outright, and it's easy to mistake for a bad signal source instead of a worn module. On the mainframe side, the wide-bandwidth trigger system (rated up to 12.5 GHz on these platforms) is the second most common complaint: trigger sensitivity drifts down and the scope intermittently fails to lock on marginal signals. Because the CSA8000 runs on an embedded Windows PC with a touchscreen front end and, on older units, a floppy or CD-ROM drive, the third major failure class is straightforward PC-side hardware - dead disks, failed touchscreen digitizers, and boot failures unrelated to the sampling electronics at all. We test each unit with both known-good optical and electrical sources across the installed modules, checking sampling noise floor, trigger sensitivity and lock range, and timebase accuracy against a reference. Module-level repair addresses sampling diode and preamp faults; mainframe repair covers the trigger path and the embedded PC subsystem separately, since a PC-side failure doesn't necessarily mean the acquisition electronics need work. NIST-traceable calibration is included with the repair.
