The Lake Shore Cryotronics 332S is a precision temperature controller engineered for cryogenic research and industrial applications requiring stable, accurate thermal management down to 500 mK. It combines dual independent sensor inputs with two isolated control loops and configurable heater outputs, delivering reliable performance across extended temperature ranges. The instrument features autotuning PID control, optical isolation for low-noise measurements, and a high-resolution 24-bit ADC for repeatable sensor data acquisition.
Technical Specifications Temperature measurement extends to 500 mK using appropriate NTC RTD sensors. Two independent sensor inputs accept Diode, RTD, and Thermocouple sensors (input type specified at order; field reconfiguration is not available). Sensor excitation employs a separate current source per input with automatic scaling: 1 µA minimum for NTC RTD sensors up to 75 kΩ to minimize self-heating, scaling to 1 mA at higher temperatures for improved SNR. Diode sensor inputs accept 0 V to 2.5 V and 0 V to 7.5 V ranges at 10 µA excitation. Current reversal eliminates thermal EMF errors in all resistive sensors. Optical isolation between sensor inputs and instrument functions ensures quiet measurements. Heater outputs consist of a 50 W Loop 1 source (selectable ranges: 100 mW, 250 mW, 500 mW, 1 W, 2.5 W, 5 W, 10 W, 25 W, or 50 W) as an isolated variable DC current source, and a Loop 2 output delivering 0 V to 10 V at up to 1 A (10 W maximum).
Key Features
Dual PID control loops with autotuning or manual parameter adjustment
Ten-zone temperature range compensation for operation across large thermal spans
Setpoint ramp function for smooth, predictable approach to target values
24-bit ADC with high resolution across dual sensor channels
Bright vacuum fluorescent display showing up to four simultaneously configurable readings
Optical isolation on heater outputs and sensor inputs for EMI immunity
Typical Applications Cryogenic physics research, materials characterization, superconductivity studies, and thermal management in small laboratory ovens and liquid helium cooling systems.
Compatibility & Integration Supports Cernox™ and equivalent NTC resistance temperature detectors. Loop 1 accepts resistive heater loads; Loop 2 accepts 0–10 V variable voltage loads. Sensor input type (diode/RTD or thermocouple) is factory-configured per purchase specification.
