This unit
The Agilent/Keysight 81001FF is a fixed diffraction filter that attenuates optical signals across a broad wavelength range, preventing overload of sensitive optical power meters when measuring high-power sources. The mesh diffraction filter provides approximately 10 dB of attenuation with excellent flatness across its operational band. Two units can be cascaded to achieve ~20 dB attenuation.
Polarization dependent loss is minimal at 0.05 dB peak-to-peak, and the filter integrates directly with 815xxx and 816xxx series optical heads and related adapter components.
Technical Specifications
- Type: Fixed Diffraction Filter
- Attenuation: Approximately 10 dB nominal
- Wavelength Range: 450 nm to 1700 nm

Agilent / Keysight 81001FF — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent / Keysight 81001FF. Calibration covers attenuation accuracy at 5 or more set values across the full range (0 to rated maximum dB), attenuation linearity, wavelength-dependent attenuation at 1310 nm, 1490 nm, and 1550 nm, insertion loss at minimum attenuation (0 dB position), and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) where applicable. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Agilent / Keysight 81001FF faults: motor and gear mechanism wear (attenuation steps or loss of smooth control), optical port contamination, EEPROM calibration data corruption. Most common faults are motor or gear mechanism wear on variable attenuators causing attenuation steps or loss of smooth control, optical port contamination reducing dynamic range, and EEPROM calibration data corruption on digitally controlled models.
