This unit
The Ando AQ2141 Optical Multimeter Expansion Frame is a modular chasscan extend the measurement capabilities of the Ando AQ2140 Optical Multimeter. It accommodates up to four optical measurement modules per frame - including sensor units, OPM units, light source units, and ASE or LD units - enabling scalable multi-channel optical testing configurations. A single AQ2140 supports up to four AQ2141 frames, delivering a maximum of 16 external channels.
The frame operates in manual mode with common settings applied across all units, or via GP-IB for individual unit control. When equipped with light source units, the AQ2141 functions as a multi-channel light source; however, ATT function and 1 kHz or 2 kHz chopped light operation are not supported in standalone mode.
Technical Specifications
Chassis Architecture- 4 channels maximum per AQ2141 frame
- Up to four frames connectable to a single AQ2140 unit
- Total system capacity: 16 external channels Supported Module Types
- Sensor Units
- OPM Units (Optical Power Meter)
- Light Source Units
- ASE Units (e.g., Ando AQ4310B)
- LD Units (e.g., Ando AQ4211, AQ4214) Power Measurement Performance
- CW light: -90 to 0 dBm with typ. 0.02 dB P-P
- Chopped light: -60 to +10 dBm (1 nW to 10 mW) with typ. 0.03 dB P-P Operational Modes
- Manual: Common wavelength, averaging, and reference level settings across all units, with individual unit override capability
- GP-IB: Individual unit settings for automated control
Key Features
- Light source units may be freely mixed within the frame
- Mounted sensor or OPM units must be of identical type for correct operation
- Optical return loss measurement units supported
- Older sensor and OPM units may require factory software updates for compatibility
Typical Applications
- Multi-channel fiber loss measurement (e.g., 8-core tape fiber configurations)
- Research and development optical testing
- Manufacturing environments requiring versatile measurement configurations
Compatibility & Integration The AQ2141 expands the AQ2140 Optical Multimeter platform, allowing users to build scalable measurement systems without replacing core instrumentation. Wavelength range and polarization dependency loss specifications depend on the specific light source and sensor units installed.
