This unit
The Abaco Systems Com360 is a PMC (PCI Mezzanine Card) module purpose-built for serial communications in embedded and industrial applications. It integrates the Motorola MC68360 Quad Integrated Communications Controller (QUICC) to deliver flexible multi-protocol serial connectivity with individually configurable ports and dual I/O mounting options.
Technical Specifications
- Core Controller: Motorola MC68360 QUICC
- Serial Communications Ports: Up to four full-duplex SCC (Serial Communications Controller) ports plus two SMC (Serial Multi-protocol Controller) ports
- Supported Standards: RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 (per-port configurable on SCC channels)
- SMC Port Configuration: RS-232 (fixed)
- Port Orientation: All ports operate as DTE (Data Terminal Equipment)
- Form Factor: PMC standard
- I/O Mounting: Front and rear I/O supported
- ARINC Channels: 4
- Asynchronous Communication: Yes
- Synchronous Communication: 1 channel
Key Features
- Individual port configuration allows mixed serial standards on a single module
- Four full-duplex SCC ports support RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 simultaneously
- Two dedicated SMC ports for RS-232 asynchronous communication
- Dual I/O interface options accommodate both front-panel and rear-panel mounting
- Integrated QUICC architecture reduces component count and power consumption
Typical Applications The Com360 is suited for avionics systems, military communication platforms, industrial control interfaces, and legacy embedded systems requiring flexible serial connectivity with support for multiple electrical standards.
Compatibility & Integration
- Software Support: VxWorks drivers included
- Form Factor: Standard PMC mechanical and electrical compatibility
- Product Status: Entered Restricted Production Phase (RPP) as of September 29, 2006. Legacy documentation and software available. Contact Abaco Systems for migration guidance.
