This unit

The JDSU OLP-6 is a pocket-class handheld optical power meter for field measurement of optical power and attenuation across LAN, Telecom, and CATV networks. Its compact, lightweight design and three-button interface enable rapid deployment by technicians and engineers. The meter measures optical power from -65 dBm to +10 dBm and operates across wavelengths to 1650 nm, supporting both single-mode and multi-mode fiber applications.

Technical Specifications

  • Measurement Range: -65 dBm to +10 dBm

  • Wavelength Capability: Single-mode and multi-mode; up to 1650 nm

  • Dual-Wavelength Support: 850/1300 nm or 1310/1550 nm with compatible JDSU OLS light sources

  • Measurement Units: dB, dBm

  • Accuracy: Optimized under reference conditions (1310 nm ± 2 nm, -20 dBm CW, 23°C ± 3 K, 40–75% RH); APC connector use adds -0.1 dB uncertainty

  • Connector Interface: Universal Push-Pull (UPP) adapter compatible with 2.5 mm and 1.25 mm connectors

  • Power Supply: AA batteries (alkaline or NiMH/NiCd rechargeable); >130 hours operating time

  • Auto-Shutoff: Selectable 20-minute timeout to extend battery life

  • Calibration Interval: 3 years recommended

Key Features

  • TWINtest function enables automatic attenuation measurements at dual wavelengths when paired with compatible light source

  • Auto-lambda wavelength detection and fiber identification with JDSU OLS light sources

  • Single-keystroke reference level setting for attenuation measurement per IEC-874-1 (method 6)

  • Modulation frequency detection for fiber identification when used with light source

  • Battery replacement indicator

Typical Applications LAN installation and troubleshooting; Telecom network commissioning and maintenance; CATV system testing; insertion loss and attenuation measurements in fiber optic links.

Compatibility & Integration Designed for operation with JDSU OLS optical light sources to enable insertion loss and dual-wavelength testing. Universal connector compatibility eliminates the need for adapter changes between measurement points.
