This unit
The Abaco Systems PMC-Octal Pro-232 is a PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) that delivers eight asynchronous RS-232 serial communication channels in a compact, high-density form factor. Built around dual Quad UART architecture, this module supports software-configurable baud rates from 50 bps to 460.8 kbps and includes 128 bytes of transmit and receive FIFO buffering per channel. Standard asynchronous baud rates are generated by an on-board 7.3728 MHz oscillator, with an unpopulated oscillator site available for custom frequency implementation.
The PMC-Octal Pro-232 routes serial signals
TxD, RxD, CTS, RTS, DSR, and DTR per channel - to both a front-panel 68-pin connector and the PMC back panel (P4) I/O connector, enabling flexible integration into embedded systems and data communications platforms.

Abaco Systems / SBS / Greenspring PMC-Octal Pro-232 — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Abaco Systems / SBS / Greenspring PMC-Octal Pro-232. Calibration covers analog input channel accuracy and offset at all gain settings, analog output accuracy, digital I/O logic threshold verification, sample rate and timing accuracy, and trigger and synchronization bus functional verification. NI CompactRIO and PXI chassis also undergo backplane trigger line integrity check.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Abaco Systems / SBS / Greenspring PMC-Octal Pro-232 faults: power supply failure (cRIO-9073/9074), C-series slot connector wear, PXI chassis fan failure, GPIB interface failure on VXI controllers, BIOS/EEPROM corruption. NI CompactRIO most common faults are power supply failure on older cRIO-9073/9074 chassis and C-series module slot connector wear from repeated hot-swap cycles. PXI chassis fan failure is the most common wear item — chassis fans are field-replaceable. VXI embedded controllers most commonly develop EEPROM corruption and GPIB interface failure.
