This unit

The Agilent/Keysight 34504B is a PCI GPIB interface card that enables direct connection and control of up to 14 test instruments in automated measurement systems. Operating at a maximum data transfer rate of 900 KB/s, it decouples GPIB and PCI bus transfers to optimize system performance while supporting both IEEE 488.1 and IEEE 488.2 protocols.

Technical Specifications

  • Interface Standard: IEEE 488.1 and IEEE 488.2 compliant GPIB

  • Data Transfer Rate: 900 KB/s maximum

  • Instrument Capacity: Up to 14 instruments via daisy-chain configuration

  • Power Supply: +3.3 V or +5 V from PCI backplane

  • Bus Standard: PCI rev 2.1 and PCI rev 2.2, 32-bit, universal 3.3 V/5 V slots

  • Form Factor: Standard and low-profile bracket options

  • Physical Dimensions: 122 mm (L) × 122 mm (W) × 22 mm (H)

  • Weight: 0.091 kg

Key Features

  • Built-in I/O buffering with direct memory access (DMA) capability for optimized throughput across all GPIB configurations

  • Decoupled GPIB-to-PCI transfer architecture eliminates bus contention and improves overall system performance

  • Parallel polling support enables single-cycle status interrogation of up to 8 instruments

  • Bracket flexibility accommodates both standard and low-profile PC chassis installations

  • Plug-and-play compatible with automatic hardware detection and software configuration

Typical Applications

  • Automated test equipment (ATE) systems requiring multi-instrument control

  • Data acquisition platforms for laboratory and production environments

  • Instrument integration into existing Windows-based measurement systems

Compatibility & Integration

  • Operating Systems: Windows 7, 8, 10 (32-bit and 64-bit); Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, 2012, 2016 (64-bit)

  • Software Requirements: Keysight IO Libraries Suite version 17.0 or later

  • Installation: Plug-and-play standard compatible; requires single PCI slot

Agilent / Keysight 34504B — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent / Keysight 34504B. Calibration covers analog input channel accuracy and offset at all gain settings, analog output accuracy, digital I/O logic threshold verification, sample rate and timing accuracy, and trigger and synchronization bus functional verification. NI CompactRIO and PXI chassis also undergo backplane trigger line integrity check.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Standard Cal

Pass/fail cert + NIST sticker
Cal with Data
$650
Full NIST cert with measured values

Common Agilent / Keysight 34504B faults: power supply failure (cRIO-9073/9074), C-series slot connector wear, PXI chassis fan failure, GPIB interface failure on VXI controllers, BIOS/EEPROM corruption. NI CompactRIO most common faults are power supply failure on older cRIO-9073/9074 chassis and C-series module slot connector wear from repeated hot-swap cycles. PXI chassis fan failure is the most common wear item — chassis fans are field-replaceable. VXI embedded controllers most commonly develop EEPROM corruption and GPIB interface failure.
