This unit
The Wavetek Model 801 is a 50 MHz pulse generator delivering five simultaneous outputs for precision timing and digital/analog circuit testing. It combines a variable-amplitude main pulse with fixed-level TTL, ECL, and sync outputs, offering independent control of rise and fall times across a 5 Hz to 50 MHz frequency range. Engineers and laboratories use this instrument for versatile pulse generation with selectable operational modes including continuous, triggered, gated, burst, double pulse, and external width control.
Technical Specifications
Primary Pulse Output (Variable Amplitude)- Frequency range: 5 Hz to 50 MHz
- Amplitude: ±20 V adjustable (±10 V into 50 Ω load)
- Source impedance: 50 Ω
- Rise/fall times: <7 ns (5 ns typical) to 250 ms, independently adjustable with 50:1 vernier ratio
- Pulse width: <10 ns to 100 ms in seven overlapping ranges
- Pulse delay: <10 ns to 100 ms relative to sync pulse
- Period range: 200 ms
- Period jitter: <0.1% + 50 ps
- Width jitter: 10 ns (10%–90% points) Fixed-Level Outputs
- ECL pulses: Two outputs with <6 ns transition times
- TTL pulses: One output with <10 ns transition times
- Sync pulse: 50% ±4% duty cycle (periods ≤2 µs)
Key Features
- Normal/complement control for all outputs except sync
- Six operational modes: continuous, triggered, gated, burst (1–100 pulses), double pulse, and external width
- Dual ECL outputs plus dedicated TTL and sync outputs
- Vernier adjustment on fast rise/fall times for precise control
Typical Applications Digital circuit timing, analog pulse testing, system integration verification, and laboratory characterization of high-speed circuits requiring precise trigger synchronization and multi-format logic outputs.
Compatibility & Integration Standard TTL and ECL logic levels ensure compatibility with conventional digital test equipment and circuit boards.
