This unit
The HP/Agilent 8013A Pulse Generator is a precision instrument for generating programmable pulses in electronic circuit testing, characterization, and validation. Operating at frequencies up to 50 MHz, it delivers simultaneous outputs of opposite polarity with adjustable amplitude and DC offset. The instrument supports internal, external, and manual triggering modes, making it adaptable to diverse test workflows in research, development, and manufacturing environments.
Technical Specifications
Maximum Frequency: 50 MHz
Pulse Period: 50 ns to 10 s
Pulse Width: Less than 10 ns to 1 s (four adjustable ranges)
Pulse Delay: Less than 35 ns to 1 s
Rise/Fall Transition Times: Less than 3.5 ns (fixed)
Overshoot and Ringing: Less than ±5% of pulse amplitude
Preshoot: Less than ±5% of pulse amplitude
Amplitude: Continuously adjustable
DC Offset: Continuously adjustable
Source Impedance: Switchable between 50 Ω and high impedance
Output Configuration: Two channels with simultaneous opposite polarity pulses
External Trigger Input: Accepts signals greater than +1 V, minimum 7 ns width; maximum input ±5 V
Key Features
Dual complementary pulse outputs for differential testing
Four-range pulse width control for extended parameter flexibility
Selectable impedance matching for 50 Ω systems or high-impedance applications
Triple triggering capability: internal repetition rate, external signal, or front-panel manual
Minimal transition overshoot and ringing (±5% specification) ensures signal integrity
Fixed 3.5 ns rise/fall times deliver consistent pulse edges across the operating range
Typical Applications Digital circuit characterization, TTL/CMOS testing, transient response analysis, and time-domain validation in both laboratory and production environments.
Compatibility & Integration This instrument carries both HP and Agilent branding; all variants with identical model numbers are directly interchangeable. Twin output connectors (OUTPUT (+) and OUTPUT (−)) connect to standard test points. The generator operates from 115 V or 230 VAC ±10%, −15%, at 48–440 Hz, drawing approximately 60 VA. Compact form factor: 6 × 9 × 14 inches, 10 lbs. The 8013A is a legacy discontinued product.
