This unit
The Anritsu MU181000A is a 1-port synthesizer module engineered for integration into Anritsu Signal Quality Analyzer Series and Signal Quality Analyzer-R Series mainframes. This module generates clock signals across 100 MHz to 12.5 GHz and is a dedicated clock source for complementary modules including the MU181020A 12.5 Gbit/s PPG and MU181800A 12.5 GHz Clock Distributor. The module outputs a 10 MHz reference signal for external device synchronization and accepts external 10 MHz reference input for phase locking.
An optional MU181000A-001 jitter module extends capability to include jitter modulation for signal integrity and compliance testing. The internal sinusoidal jitter source operates to 80 MHz, and external regulation sources can be connected to support multiple jitter profiles.
Technical Specifications
- Frequency Range: 100 MHz to 12.5 GHz
- Reference Signal: 10 MHz output and input
- Module Format: 2-slot wide
- Clock Output Ports: 1
- Jitter Modulation (MU181000A-001 option): Internal sinusoidal jitter source up to 80 MHz; external jitter source support included
Key Features
- Direct integration into MP1800A, MT1810A, and MP1900A mainframes
- Synchronization with external 10 MHz reference signal
- Optional jitter injection capability supporting internal and external modulation sources
- Single output port for clock distribution to cascaded modules
Typical Applications
- Clock generation and distribution for 12.5 Gbit/s pattern generation
- Jitter injection testing for serial data receiver characterization
- Multi-module synchronization in signal quality analysis systems
- Reference clock supply for external test equipment
Compatibility & Integration The MU181000A integrates with MU181020A-002 (0.1 to 12.5 Gbit/s) and MU181020B-002 (0.1 to 14 Gbit/s) PPG modules. It is not compatible with MU181020A-001 (9.8 to 12.5 Gbit/s). The module functions as the primary clock source for the MU181800A 12.5 GHz Clock Distributor, enabling multi-port synchronized signal distribution.

Anritsu MU181000A — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Anritsu MU181000A. Calibration covers output frequency accuracy, output power level accuracy across the full frequency range, AM/FM/PM/pulse modulation accuracy, harmonic and spurious output levels, and phase noise floor verification. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Anritsu MU181000A faults: YIG oscillator failure (no output or loss of lock), step attenuator wear (output drops or steps at set attenuation), ALC loop failure (uncontrolled output power), I/Q modulator assembly failure. HP/Agilent 836xx series most common faults are YIG oscillator failure and step attenuator contact wear causing output steps or drops at specific attenuation settings. Keysight E4428C/E4438C units most commonly develop ALC loop failure and I/Q modulator assembly faults. YIG oscillator replacement and attenuator service are stocked repairs.
