This unit

The Fiberpro PS-155-A is a benchtop polarization scrambler designed for fiber optic system testing. It continuously randomizes the state of polarization of an optical signal, which is used to eliminate polarization-dependent measurement errors in optical component characterization, PDL/PDG measurement, and coherent system testing. Key Specs Wavelength Range: 1260–1620 nm Input/Output: FC/APC or FC/PC connectors (specify on order) Scrambling Speed: Adjustable, typically 10 krad/s equivalent Insertion Loss: <1.0 dB typical Return Loss: >45 dB (APC version) Control: Front panel or RS-232 remote Input Power: 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz The PS-155-A drives a lithium niobate waveguide modulator that rotates the polarization state at high speed. At sufficient scrambling speed, a PDL-sensitive detector integrates across all polarization states and sees the average insertion loss instead of the worst-case, which removes polarization-dependent error from the measurement. It is used in production test of passive components like isolators, circulators, WDM filters, and amplifiers where polarization dependence must be characterized or nulled out. It is also used in lab setups evaluating coherent transceivers where signal polarization affects receiver performance. The RS-232 interface allows scrambling speed, waveform, and output state to be set programmatically. Fiberpro provides a Windows control utility. This unit was verified for power-on and optical output at our Downingtown, PA facility before listing. What connector type does this unit have? This unit is equipped with FC/APC connectors, which is the standard for low back-reflection fiber optic test setups. If you need FC/PC, contact us before ordering. Can it scramble multiple channels simultaneously? No. The PS-155-A is a single-channel polarization scrambler. For multi-channel setups, one unit is required per channel. Is this the same as the Fiberpro PS-155? The PS-155-A is the standalone unit version of the PS-155 OEM module. Both use the same scrambling element and optical specifications. The A suffix denotes the boxed, AC-powered instrument configuration.

Fiberpro PS-155-A — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Fiberpro PS-155-A. Calibration covers optical reference power levels, electrical signal amplitude calibration, protocol layer verification, and BER measurement floor validation. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
