This unit

The Agilent/Keysight 8168D Tunable Laser Source delivers precision wavelength control across the S+C bands for optical component characterization and WDM system testing. Independent adjustment of output power and wavelength enables stable power delivery during wavelength scans, critical for component validation and photonic experiments. A built-in sidemode filter ensures true single-mode operation with linewidth as narrow as 100 kHz, supporting both coherent and incoherent measurement scenarios.

Technical Specifications

  • Wavelength Range: 1490 nm to 1565 nm (S+C bands)

  • Wavelength Accuracy: ±0.2 nm (absolute); ±0.01 nm (relative)

  • Wavelength Resolution: 0.001 nm

  • Wavelength Stability: -3 dBm)

  • Power Stability: ±0.03 dB

  • Linewidth: 100 kHz (typical, coherent control OFF); 30–500 MHz (typical, coherent control ON)

Key Features

  • Independent power and wavelength control eliminates output fluctuations during scans

  • Internal modulation: 250 Hz to 300 kHz squarewave, 100% depth capability

  • External modulation: 200 kHz to 20 MHz bandwidth, ±15% maximum depth

  • Three fiber connector options: straight contact, angled contact, and angled non-contact (Diamond HMS-10/HP/HRL)

  • Coherent control mode reduces interference ripple through effective linewidth broadening to 500 MHz

  • 0.001 nm wavelength resolution supports dense WDM component testing

Typical Applications

  • Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) component design validation

  • Optical filter and component spectral characterization

  • Loss, return loss, and coupling ratio measurements

  • Integration into automated production test environments
