This unit
The Agilent/Keysight 8660C Synthesized Signal Generator is a modular mainframe instrument delivering signal generation for receiver testing, component characterization, and signal simulation. The 8660C requires plug-in RF and modulation sections, enabling flexible configuration across multiple frequency bands and modulation types. Frequency resolution reaches 1 Hz standard, with optional 100 Hz stepping.
Output spans greater than 140 dB dynamic range, continuously calibrated from +13 dBm to -146 dBm into 50 ohms and programmable in 1 dB steps. Phase noise performance reaches -70 dBc/Hz typical (1 Hz BW). Switching time is less than 5 ms to settle within 100 Hz of a new frequency.
The instrument supports multiple modulation plug-ins including AM, FM, phase, and pulse modulation, with optional HP-IB (IEEE 488) remote control and BCD interface for frequency and output level programming.

Agilent / Keysight 8660C — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent / Keysight 8660C. Calibration covers output frequency accuracy, output power level accuracy across the full frequency range, AM/FM/PM/pulse modulation accuracy, harmonic and spurious output levels, and phase noise floor verification. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Agilent / Keysight 8660C faults: YIG oscillator failure (no output or loss of lock), step attenuator wear (output drops or steps at set attenuation), ALC loop failure (uncontrolled output power), I/Q modulator assembly failure. HP/Agilent 836xx series most common faults are YIG oscillator failure and step attenuator contact wear causing output steps or drops at specific attenuation settings. Keysight E4428C/E4438C units most commonly develop ALC loop failure and I/Q modulator assembly faults. YIG oscillator replacement and attenuator service are stocked repairs.
