This unit

The Abaco Systems ABI-PMC-1 is a single-channel MIL-STD-1553 to PCI Mezzanine Card interface adapter for system-level test, simulation, and laboratory applications. It operates as a Bus Controller, Remote Terminal, or Bus Monitor on dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553A/B networks, supporting up to 31 simultaneous Remote Terminal configurations. The PMC form factor integrates directly into PMC carrier platforms, delivering full-function 1553 protocol simulation with pointer-driven buffer management and programmable event interrupts.

Technical Specifications

  • Model: ABI-PMC-1

  • Manufacturer: Abaco Systems / SBS

  • Form Factor: PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC)

  • Bus Standard: MIL-STD-1553A/B, dual-redundant single channel

  • Operating Modes: Bus Controller (BC), 31 Remote Terminals (RT), Bus Monitor (BM)

  • Data Architecture: Pointer-driven transmit and receive buffers with extensive programmable event interrupts

Optional 4-channel RS-422 serial interface

Optional 48-bit IRIG-B clock input for time-code synchronization

Typical Applications Laboratory integration, system simulation, airborne and ground test environments requiring 1553 protocol emulation across multiple node roles.

Compatibility & Integration Supports BusTools/1553-API and Core API software frameworks. Multiple firmware configurations available, including Full Function with DMA and B2 Protocol with DMA variants. Compatible with PMC carrier platforms such as the CPMC1 CompactPCI host.

Abaco Systems / SBS ABI-PMC-1 — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Abaco Systems / SBS ABI-PMC-1. Calibration covers analog input channel accuracy and offset at all gain settings, analog output accuracy, digital I/O logic threshold verification, sample rate and timing accuracy, and trigger and synchronization bus functional verification. NI CompactRIO and PXI chassis also undergo backplane trigger line integrity check.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Standard Cal
$450
Pass/fail cert + NIST sticker
Cal with Data
$650
Full NIST cert with measured values

Common Abaco Systems / SBS ABI-PMC-1 faults: power supply failure (cRIO-9073/9074), C-series slot connector wear, PXI chassis fan failure, GPIB interface failure on VXI controllers, BIOS/EEPROM corruption. NI CompactRIO most common faults are power supply failure on older cRIO-9073/9074 chassis and C-series module slot connector wear from repeated hot-swap cycles. PXI chassis fan failure is the most common wear item — chassis fans are field-replaceable. VXI embedded controllers most commonly develop EEPROM corruption and GPIB interface failure.
