This unit
The Agilent/Keysight E1407A is an active adapter that enables A/B-size VXI modules to integrate into C-size VXI mainframes. It has fully buffered P1 and P2 connector extensions with configurable trigger signal routing and VME isolation capability. Designed as a slave-only device, the E1407A cannot occupy Slot 0 or function with bus masters, making it suitable for passive insertion into populated C-size chassis.
A ribbon cable isolates outer P2 rows for VME applications. The adapter is available in standard single-slot or optional two-slot configurations. Note: This product is obsolete and no longer available due to non-compliance with EU RoHS directive 2011/65/EU; Keysight provides service and support through end-of-life.
Technical Specifications
- Module Type: Active Adapter
- Size Compatibility: Adapts A/B-size VXI modules to C-size VXI mainframes
- Slot Width: Standard 1-slot; Option 010 provides 2-slot width (leftmost backplane connection)
- Connector Support: P1 and P2, fully buffered extensions
- Operational Mode: Slave-only; cannot be used in Slot 0 or with bus masters
- Multiple Unit Support: Any number of adapters can be deployed in a single mainframe
Key Features
- Fully buffered P1 and P2 interface extensions maintain signal integrity across adaptation boundary
- Configurable TTL trigger routing (TTL0–TTL7): selectable per-line sourcing from B-size module or VXI backplane
- Configurable ECL trigger routing (ECL0/ECL1): independent direction selection per signal line
- P2 ribbon cable enables outer row isolation for VME card adaptation
- Slave architecture eliminates bus arbitration conflicts in multi-adapter configurations
Compatibility & Integration The E1407A integrates legacy A/B-size VXI instrumentation into modern C-size chassis without requiring redesign. Trigger line switches provide per-signal flexibility for mixed-topology systems. While many VME cards can mechanically and electrically adapt through the E1407A, such configurations are unsupported. SUMBUS handling requires external ribbon cable and jumper configuration; no inherent SUMBUS buffering is provided.
