This unit

The Keysight/Agilent/HP E3249B is a two-slot C-size VXI module that integrates mass storage and backup functionality for VXI-based test systems. It combines a 4 Gbyte SCSI-II system disk with an integrated DAT drive supporting 4 Gbyte per tape (8 Gbyte typical with compression), enabling reliable data storage, retrieval, and backup of measurement data and system operations. The SCSI interface connects externally to the VXI system controller via front panel connectors, isolating SCSI traffic from VXI backplane operations.

Technical Specifications System Disk:

Capacity: 4 Gbyte

Interface: SCSI-II

Projected MTBF: 800,000 hours DAT Drive:

Capacity: 4 Gbyte per tape (8 Gbyte typical with data compression)

Media: DDS (Digital Data Storage) format; 120-meter DDS-2 tape cartridges supported

Backup Performance: Approximately 30 minutes for 2 GB with compression using DDS format

Maintenance: Cleaning required after approximately 30 hours of operation or when status indicator signals cleaning need; performed using DAT cleaning cassette SCSI Interface:

Type: Single-ended SCSI-II

Configuration: Front panel connectors for VXI system controller connection; second SCSI-II connector for daisy-chain to additional SCSI-II devices

Device Addressing: Factory default addresses are 3 (DAT drive/TAPE) and 6 (disk drive), configurable via DIP switches on side panel; unique addresses required for each device on bus VXI Module:

Form Factor: C-size, two-slot module

Cooling Requirement: 3.3 liters/second at 0.13 mm H₂O (10°C rise)

Operating Orientation: Front panel vertical when DAT drive is in operation

Key Features

Decoupled SCSI interface prevents backplane contention

DDS format support with write-protection safeguards for non-DDS media

Configurable SCSI addressing via accessible DIP switches

Integrated tape backup and disk storage in single module footprint

Typical Applications Automated test system data logging, instrument control system archival, measurement database backup, and long-term data retention in VXI mainframe environments.

Compatibility & Integration Designed for integration into VXI systems requiring external SCSI connectivity. Compatible with SCSI-II controllers and DDS-format tape media. Requires mainframe support for 3.3 liters/second cooling.
