This unit

The Advantech MIC-2340 is a modular CPU platform designed for industrial embedded systems and control applications requiring reliable performance in demanding environments. Built on an ISA-bus passive backplane architecture, the module integrates field-replaceable power delivery, vibration-isolated mounting, and expandable I/O capabilities within a compact form factor supporting both panel and 19" rackmount installations.

Technical Specifications

  • Backplane: ISA-bus passive backplane, 8 or 11-slot configurations

  • Power Supply: Field-replaceable 250 W unit

  • Additional Card Power: 12 VDC from onboard connector for high-power add-on cards

  • Mounting: 4-point vibration-isolation scheme; secured on all four sides for shock and vibration protection

  • Cooling: Dual push/pull fan system with positive air pressure dust repulsion

  • Air Filtration: Field-removable filter element

  • Module Extraction: Integrated handle for rapid installation and removal, reducing MTTR

Key Features

  • Passive Backplane Architecture: ISA-bus interface eliminates active backplane complexity and improves system reliability

  • Thermal Management: Positive pressure cooling with optional smart-function system fans for add-on card thermal control

  • Field Serviceability: Direct PLC-type wiring reduces maintenance time; all power supplies and filters are field-replaceable

  • Mechanical Robustness: 4-point isolation mounting and full-perimeter mechanical protection withstand shock and vibration typical of industrial installations

  • Storage Expansion: Additional HDD/SSD bays available, including removable storage options

Compatibility & Integration The MIC-2340 supports PCIe/PCI interface add-on cards including frame grabbers, GPUs, and motion control modules. Each card draws power from the PCIe/PCI slot; modules exceeding slot power budgets access the reserved 12 VDC onboard supply. Front panel I/O is directly accessible for sensor and actuator connections. The modular architecture enables custom configurations without redesign of the host platform.

Advantech MIC-2340 — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Advantech MIC-2340. Calibration covers analog input channel accuracy and offset at all gain settings, analog output accuracy, digital I/O logic threshold verification, sample rate and timing accuracy, and trigger and synchronization bus functional verification. NI CompactRIO and PXI chassis also undergo backplane trigger line integrity check.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Common Advantech MIC-2340 faults: power supply failure (cRIO-9073/9074), C-series slot connector wear, PXI chassis fan failure, GPIB interface failure on VXI controllers, BIOS/EEPROM corruption. NI CompactRIO most common faults are power supply failure on older cRIO-9073/9074 chassis and C-series module slot connector wear from repeated hot-swap cycles. PXI chassis fan failure is the most common wear item — chassis fans are field-replaceable. VXI embedded controllers most commonly develop EEPROM corruption and GPIB interface failure.
