Emerson / Motorola MVME162-220 Embedded Controller

The Emerson/Motorola MVME162-220 is a single-height 6U VME embedded controller built on a 25 MHz Motorola MC68040 32-bit processor with integrated 8KB cache, MMU, and FPU. Standard configurations ship with 4MB parity-protected DRAM, expandable to 16MB, plus 512KB battery-backed SRAM and 1MB Flash memory. The board integrates VMEchip2 ASIC for A32/D64 VMEbus master/slave control, a PCC2 parallel interface controller, and an 85230 serial I/O controller supporting four EIA-232-D ports at 38.4 kbps maximum. Optional Intel 82596CA Ethernet and NCR53C710 SCSI controllers enable network and storage connectivity. Six 32-bit programmable timers (1 μs resolution) and four IndustryPack interfaces support real-time I/O expansion. The board measures 233.4 mm (H) × 160.0 mm (D) and accepts both MC68040 and MC68LC040 processor variants. MK48T08 NVRAM with integrated time-of-day clock and battery backup provide nonvolatile storage and timekeeping across power cycles. Worst-case SRAM battery backup duration reaches 200 days.
