This unit

The Agilent/Keysight 403B is an analog AC voltmeter engineered for precision measurement of alternating voltage signals across wide frequency and amplitude ranges. This discontinued instrument operates from 5 Hz to 2 MHz and provides selectable measurement ranges spanning 0.001 V to 300 V, making it suitable for diverse AC voltage characterization tasks in laboratory and field environments.

Technical Specifications

  • Instrument Type: Analog AC Voltmeter

  • Frequency Range: 5 Hz to 2 MHz

  • Voltage Ranges: 0.001 V to 300 V (selectable)

  • Manufacturer Status: Discontinued

Key Features

  • Multi-decade voltage measurement capability from millivolt to three-hundred volt levels

  • Extended frequency response spanning five decades from subsonic through RF domains

  • Analog display technology for real-time signal observation

  • Selectable input ranges for optimized measurement resolution and accuracy across varying signal amplitudes

Typical Applications

  • AC voltage characterization in audio-frequency circuits and subsonic instrumentation

  • Low-voltage signal measurement in precision analog systems

  • Wideband AC measurements extending into the RF spectrum

  • Laboratory bench testing and field troubleshooting of AC-powered equipment

Compatibility & Integration As a discontinued product, the 403B may present sourcing constraints. Original documentation and spare components availability should be verified prior to procurement for critical measurement applications. Direct integration with modern digital acquisition systems requires external interface solutions.

Agilent / Keysight 403B — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent / Keysight 403B. Calibration covers DC voltage accuracy at all ranges, AC voltage (True RMS) accuracy at 50 Hz, 1 kHz, and 10 kHz, DC current accuracy, resistance accuracy at all decade ranges, frequency accuracy, and diode test voltage. Fluke 87V and 289 also include capacitance and temperature calibration.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Standard Cal
$450
Pass/fail cert + NIST sticker
Cal with Data
$650
Full NIST cert with measured values

Common Agilent / Keysight 403B faults: blown input fuse, worn input jacks, display segment failure, relay contact wear on bench DMMs. Common faults include worn input jacks (banana socket contact wear on the mA and COM terminals), blown input fuses (especially the 440 mA HRC fuse), and display segment failures. Keithley 2000/2001/2002 bench DMMs commonly develop relay contact wear affecting resistance accuracy after extended service.
