This unit
The Agilent/Keysight 34405A is a 5.5-digit benchtop digital multimeter delivering dual-display simultaneous readings and 16 measurement functions for precision electronic testing. DC voltage accuracy reaches ± 0.025% of reading + 0.005% of range over one year at 23°C ± 5°C. The instrument provides true-RMS AC voltage and current measurement, 2-wire resistance, frequency, diode test, continuity, temperature (−80°C to 150°C with appropriate probe), and capacitance (1000 pF to 10000 µF) across auto-ranging measurement ranges.
Technical Specifications
Resolution is 120,000 counts across a dual display. Reading speed reaches 15 readings/sec at 5½ digits for DC voltage and current, with function changes in 0.6 sec and range changes in 0.7 sec. Auto-range capability completes in 2.2 sec. Over USB, 4½-digit readings reach 8 readings/sec. AC voltage accuracy (true RMS) is 0.2% + 0.1% of range from 45 Hz to 10 kHz with crest factor up to 3 at full scale. AC current accuracy follows the same specification from 45 Hz to 1 kHz. The instrument operates from 0°C to 55°C for full accuracy at up to 80% RH (non-condensing) and altitudes to 3000 meters. Dimensions are 103.8 mm × 261.1 mm × 303.2 mm (H×W×D) in benchtop configuration, with weight of 3.75 kg. Power consumption averages less than 11 W with maximum 16 VA draw. The unit accepts 100V/120V/220V/240V ± 10% AC supply at 45 Hz to 66 Hz line frequency. Warm-up to full accuracy requires 30 minutes.Key Features
- Dual display for simultaneous independent measurements
- True-RMS AC measurement capability
- Math operations: Null, dBm, dB, MinMax, Limit, Hold
- Auto-ranging across all measurement types
Typical Applications Bench troubleshooting, production testing, field service, and lab characterization of electronic circuits and components requiring multi-function measurement capability.
Compatibility & Integration USB 2.0 interface enables PC connectivity and remote control via SCPI commands. IVI-COM and LabVIEW drivers support automated test sequences and data logging through Agilent/Keysight Connectivity software.
Agilent / Keysight 34505A — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent / Keysight 34505A. Calibration covers DC voltage accuracy at all ranges, AC voltage (True RMS) accuracy at 50 Hz, 1 kHz, and 10 kHz, DC current accuracy, resistance accuracy at all decade ranges, frequency accuracy, and diode test voltage. Fluke 87V and 289 also include capacitance and temperature calibration.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Agilent / Keysight 34505A faults: blown input fuse, worn input jacks, display segment failure, relay contact wear on bench DMMs. Common faults include worn input jacks (banana socket contact wear on the mA and COM terminals), blown input fuses (especially the 440 mA HRC fuse), and display segment failures. Keithley 2000/2001/2002 bench DMMs commonly develop relay contact wear affecting resistance accuracy after extended service.
