This unit
The JDS Uniphase MAP-VOA is a modular variable optical attenuator engineered for integration into the JDS Uniphase MAP Series platform. This hot-swappable cassette module delivers precise optical power control across the C- and L-bands, supporting both single-mode and multimode fiber configurations. Operating wavelengths span 1260 nm to 1650 nm, with attenuation capability up to 70 dB and guaranteed accuracy of ±0.1 dB from 0 to 45 dB. The 0.001 dB setting resolution enables fine-grained signal conditioning in automated test environments, laboratory setups, and production line applications. Insertion loss remains below 1.0 dB at minimum attenuation, while repeatability of ±0.01 dB ensures consistent measurement results across multiple cycles. With maximum input power handling of +23 dBm (up to 2 W for single-mode fiber with optional higher power capability), the MAP-VOA accommodates high-power optical signals. Return loss exceeds 55 dB typical, and shutter isolation reaches 100 dB typical. Remote control via RS-232 and GPIB interfaces enables seamless integration into automated test sequences. Up to 16 independently controlled attenuators can be installed in a single MAP chassis. The modular architecture allows insertion and removal without system power-down, supporting rapid system reconfiguration and maintenance.

JDS Uniphase MAP-VOA — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the JDS Uniphase MAP-VOA. Calibration covers attenuation accuracy at 5 or more set values across the full range (0 to rated maximum dB), attenuation linearity, wavelength-dependent attenuation at 1310 nm, 1490 nm, and 1550 nm, insertion loss at minimum attenuation (0 dB position), and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) where applicable. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common JDS Uniphase MAP-VOA faults: motor and gear mechanism wear (attenuation steps or loss of smooth control), optical port contamination, EEPROM calibration data corruption. Most common faults are motor or gear mechanism wear on variable attenuators causing attenuation steps or loss of smooth control, optical port contamination reducing dynamic range, and EEPROM calibration data corruption on digitally controlled models.

JDS Uniphase MAP-VOA calibration cost
NIST-traceable calibration for the JDS Uniphase MAP-VOA is $450 (standard — pass/fail certificate and calibration sticker) or $650 (full measured data at every test point, reference standards documented, traceability chain included). Calibration for this instrument covers attenuation accuracy at 5 or more set values across the full range (0 to rated maximum dB), attenuation linearity, wavelength-dependent attenuation at 1310 nm, 1490 nm, and 1550 nm, insertion loss at minimum attenuation (0 dB position), and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) where applicable.
