This unit

The Advantest R6552 is a 5.5-digit digital multimeter engineered for precision measurement across R&D, manufacturing, and service environments. It delivers DC and AC voltage and current measurements, resistance in 2-wire and 4-wire configurations, frequency analysis, and diode testing with True RMS accuracy. The 319,999-count fluorescent display and sampling speeds up to 1000 samples/sec in BURST mode enable rapid signal capture, while GPIB and RS232 interfaces support remote automation and data logging.

Specialized modes - including (AC+DC) measurement for distorted waveforms and LONG-IT averaging - extend measurement capability in challenging signal conditions.

Technical Specifications

Measurement Functions:

  • DC Voltage: 30 mV to 1000 V, 0.1 µV resolution, 100 MΩ input impedance (lower ranges), 10.0 MΩ (higher ranges)

  • AC Voltage: 300 mV to 700 V, True RMS, 20 Hz to 300 kHz, (AC+DC) capability for distorted waveforms

  • DC Current: 3000 µA to 3000 mA, 10 nA resolution

  • AC Current: 3000 µA to 3000 mA, True RMS, 20 Hz to 300 kHz

Key Features

  • True RMS AC measurement eliminates error from waveform distortion

  • Low-power resistance mode reduces self-heating during testing

  • Bargraph display provides visual feedback alongside numeric readout

  • High input impedance (100 MΩ minimum) minimizes circuit loading on voltage measurements

Typical Applications

  • Component characterization and quality verification

  • In-circuit troubleshooting and signal validation

  • Automated test system integration via GPIB or RS232

Compatibility & Integration GPIB interface complies with IEEE-488.2-1987 (SH1, AH1, T5, L4, SR1, RL1, PP0, DC1, DT1, C0, E2). RS232 serial connection supports direct instrument control and remote data acquisition.

Common Advantest R6552 faults: blown input fuse, worn input jacks, display segment failure, relay contact wear on bench DMMs. Common faults include worn input jacks (banana socket contact wear on the mA and COM terminals), blown input fuses (especially the 440 mA HRC fuse), and display segment failures. Keithley 2000/2001/2002 bench DMMs commonly develop relay contact wear affecting resistance accuracy after extended service.
