This unit
The Agilent/Keysight 3403A is a True RMS voltmeter combining bench and system measurement capabilities across AC, AC+DC, and DC domains. Its 3-digit display delivers direct readouts from DC through 100 MHz, covering audio, low RF, upper RF, and IF frequency bands. The instrument provides five AC+DC ranges and five DC ranges for precise low-frequency measurements, with optional autoranging to streamline operator workflow.
Technical Specifications
Measurement Modes- True RMS AC measurement
- AC+DC measurement (five ranges)
- DC measurement (five ranges)
- Frequency bandwidth: DC and 2 Hz to 100 MHz
- Display: 3-digit Optional Features
- dB display for direct decibel readouts
- Autoranging capability
- Remote control interface
- BCD output for data logging and system integration
Key Features True RMS circuitry ensures accurate measurements of complex waveforms across the 2 Hz to 100 MHz bandwidth. The five AC+DC ranges extend low-frequency measurement capability while maintaining flexibility in DC-only applications via dedicated DC ranges. Optional BCD output and remote control enable seamless integration into automated test systems and production environments. The dB display option eliminates manual conversion for gain and loss measurements.
Typical Applications
- Audio frequency AC measurements
- Low RF and upper RF band analysis
- IF frequency characterization
- System-level AC/DC voltage monitoring with remote control
- Automated test sequences via BCD output interface
Compatibility & Integration The 3403A shares board assemblies with the 3403C model. Configuration upgrades from 3403A to 3403C are possible; however, isolated remote control and isolated BCD output features present in the 3403A will not maintain isolation in the upgraded 3403C configuration.
Agilent / Keysight 3403A — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent / Keysight 3403A. Calibration covers DC voltage accuracy at all ranges, AC voltage (True RMS) accuracy at 50 Hz, 1 kHz, and 10 kHz, DC current accuracy, resistance accuracy at all decade ranges, frequency accuracy, and diode test voltage. Fluke 87V and 289 also include capacitance and temperature calibration.. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Agilent / Keysight 3403A faults: blown input fuse, worn input jacks, display segment failure, relay contact wear on bench DMMs. Common faults include worn input jacks (banana socket contact wear on the mA and COM terminals), blown input fuses (especially the 440 mA HRC fuse), and display segment failures. Keithley 2000/2001/2002 bench DMMs commonly develop relay contact wear affecting resistance accuracy after extended service.
