This unit

The Fluke 6082A is a synthesized RF signal generator engineered for RF testing across communication, aerospace, and defense applications. Operating from 100 kHz to 2112 MHz with 0.001 Hz resolution, it delivers output power from -140 dBm to +19 dBm (with overranging to +20 dBm) into a 50 Ω nominal impedance. The instrument combines exceptional spectral purity - phase noise of -131 dBc/Hz at 1 GHz (20 kHz offset) and non-harmonic spurious below -100 dBc - with versatile modulation. AM, FM, pulse, and phase modulation operate independently or combined, with FM deviation to 8 MHz across rates from 0 to 100 kHz. Pulse rise time is <15 ns typical, and the internal modulation oscillator provides coherence with the RF carrier. Linear and logarithmic frequency or amplitude sweeps operate over 1 ms to 1000 s with digital control. Output level accuracy ranges from ±1 dB (0.4–2112 MHz) to ±2 dB (0.1–0.4 MHz), with ±1 dB flatness at +10 dBm. A fixed 20 dB attenuator vernier delivers transient-free switching in 0.1 dB steps. The instrument supports FSK and ASK modulation types and includes IEEE-488 (GPIB) control with emulation modes for Fluke 6060/6070 compatibility.

Common Fluke 6082A faults: YIG oscillator failure (no output or loss of lock), step attenuator wear (output drops or steps at set attenuation), ALC loop failure (uncontrolled output power), I/Q modulator assembly failure. HP/Agilent 836xx series most common faults are YIG oscillator failure and step attenuator contact wear causing output steps or drops at specific attenuation settings. Keysight E4428C/E4438C units most commonly develop ALC loop failure and I/Q modulator assembly faults. YIG oscillator replacement and attenuator service are stocked repairs.
