This unit

The Agilent/Keysight 400F is a function generator engineered for electronic testing, circuit design, and laboratory applications. It delivers precise signal generation across standard and arbitrary waveforms with exceptional time resolution and low distortion. The instrument combines flexible modulation capabilities, dual-channel operation, and Trueform technology to meet demanding measurement and signal synthesis requirements.

Technical Specifications

Waveform Generation

  • Standard waveforms: sine, square, triangle, ramp, pulse, noise, DC volts; optional sin(x)/x, exponential rise/fall, and cardiac profiles

  • Arbitrary waveform memory: 1 MSa/channel standard; options for 16 MSa/channel or up to 64 MSa depending on model

  • Sampling rate: up to 160 MSa/s; select models support 250 MSa/s or 1 GSa/s

  • Amplitude resolution: 16-bit (12-bit on certain models)

  • Output amplitude: 1 mVpp to 10 Vpp

  • Harmonic distortion: <0.04% THD for sine waves to 20 kHz and general arbitrary waveforms; 5× lower than traditional DDS generators

  • Jitter: <1 ps to <40 ps depending on model; pulses to 20 MHz exhibit 10× lower jitter than conventional designs Frequency and Signal Characteristics

  • Frequency range: up to 15 MHz, 30 MHz, 100 MHz, or 120 MHz depending on model configuration

  • Amplitude accuracy: ±0.5 dB Modulation and Advanced Features

  • Modulation modes: AM, FM, FSK, BPSK, PWM, and Sum (carrier + modulation)

  • Sweep and burst capability

  • Pulse generation: up to 20 MHz with precise timing; high-bandwidth pulse output to 100 MHz with independent leading and trailing edge control

  • Dual-channel operation with independent or coupled channel control, including frequency/amplitude coupling and differential output options

  • Trueform technology: proprietary architecture delivering enhanced signal fidelity and reduced jitter versus DDS generators

Agilent / Keysight 400F — Repair & Calibration Service

Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Agilent / Keysight 400F. Calibration covers output frequency accuracy, output amplitude accuracy at 50 ohm and Hi-Z load, DC offset accuracy, symmetry and duty cycle accuracy, and arbitrary waveform sample rate accuracy. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.

Standard Cal

Pass/fail cert + NIST sticker
Cal with Data
$650
Full NIST cert with measured values

Common Agilent / Keysight 400F faults: BNC output connector wear, output amplifier failure from short-circuit drive, display and keypad membrane switch wear, DDS or DAC failure on 33250A. HP 33120A and Agilent 33220A most common fault is BNC output connector wear from repeated cable insertions. Output amplifier failure on the HP 33120A typically results from sustained short-circuit drive. Agilent 33250A DDS and high-speed DAC failures are rare but require component-level repair and post-repair amplitude verification across the full 80 MHz range.
