This unit
The Rohde & Schwarz SMR40 is a microwave signal generator spanning 10 MHz to 40 GHz, engineered for receiver measurements, scalar network analysis, and demanding RF test scenarios across aerospace, defense, and communications. It delivers exceptional spectral purity through advanced fractional-N frequency synthesis, with output power exceeding +9 dBm at 40 GHz and adjustable levels down to -130 dBm via optional RF attenuation. The instrument combines low SSB phase noise (< -83 dBc at 10 GHz, 10 kHz offset) with excellent spurious suppression and harmonic rejection - below -55 dBc from 30 MHz to 20 GHz, and below -40 dBc above 20 GHz.
Technical Specifications
- Frequency Range: 10 MHz to 40 GHz

Rohde & Schwarz SMR40 — Repair & Calibration Service
Aumictech offers NIST-traceable calibration and repair for the Rohde & Schwarz SMR40. Calibration covers output frequency accuracy, output power level accuracy across the full frequency range, AM/FM/PM/pulse modulation accuracy, harmonic and spurious output levels, and phase noise floor verification. All calibrations ship with a NIST-traceable certificate. Turnaround is typically 1–3 business days after receipt.
Common Rohde & Schwarz SMR40 faults: YIG oscillator failure (no output or loss of lock), step attenuator wear (output drops or steps at set attenuation), ALC loop failure (uncontrolled output power), I/Q modulator assembly failure. HP/Agilent 836xx series most common faults are YIG oscillator failure and step attenuator contact wear causing output steps or drops at specific attenuation settings. Keysight E4428C/E4438C units most commonly develop ALC loop failure and I/Q modulator assembly faults. YIG oscillator replacement and attenuator service are stocked repairs.
